Sec (French for "dry") is a sparkling-wine sweetness classification, confusingly indicating wines with moderate residual sugar (17–32 grams per litre). The term is counterintuitive: "Sec" is sweeter than "Dry" (labeled "Extra Brut" or "Brut"), confusing consumers unfamiliar with French wine classifications. Sec sparkling wines suit those preferring moderate sweetness. The classification is less common today as producers favour Brut and Extra Brut.

Understanding sparkling-wine sweetness classifications prevents confusion. Sec is sweeter than Brut despite the counterintuitive name.
