The Casablanca Valley, between Santiago and the Pacific, pioneered Chile's cool-climate white and Pinot Noir production. Coastal fog and ocean breezes give a much cooler climate than Chile's inland valleys, yielding crisp, aromatic Sauvignon Blanc of citrus, green herbs and saline minerality, plus elegant Chardonnay and fresh Pinot Noir. It transformed Chile's reputation from bulk reds to fine, fresh, cool-climate wines.
