A blend is a wine made by combining different grape varieties, vineyard parcels, vintages or barrel lots into a single, more complete wine. Famous blends include Bordeaux (Cabernet and Merlot), GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre) and Champagne (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Meunier). Blending balances strengths and weaknesses — one grape's structure, another's fruit — and is as much an art as growing the grapes.
