Classified growth (or "cru classé") refers to the official Bordeaux classification system ranking châteaux by prestige and price. The classification distinguishes Premier Cru Classé (five estates: Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild, Haut-Brion) and Deuxième Cru through Cinquième Cru (lower tiers). The 1855 classification is largely unchanged (except Mouton's 1945 elevation). Classified-growth designation commands premium pricing; estates work toward reclassification to higher tiers.
