A single-site or single-vineyard wine is made entirely from grapes grown in one named vineyard, as opposed to a blend of parcels. The idea is to express the distinct terroir of that place — its soil, slope, aspect and microclimate — as purely as possible. Burgundy's cru system is built on it. Single-vineyard bottlings are usually a producer's most ambitious, place-specific and expensive wines.
